The Law of Navigation is a concept from John C. Maxwell's book. The law states that you need to have an action plan before you start a journey. You need to know your end objective. You need to predict the challenges and conditions. You need to make preparations for the foreseen and unforeseen. You need to be ready. Setting an action plan is not always easy, but with a few tips it can be simplified alot.

What follows is an overview on how to set an action plan. Take at least an hour or two to set up a rough draft, but continuously improve it so that it is always up-to-date.

How to Set an Action Plan For Your Business

The secret to setting an action plan is to start from the end. Begin with the big end goal and break it down again and again until you have a series of measurable steps that get you back to the goal. Ever notice how it's easier to complete a maze when you start from the end. Let's break it down.

1. Have a vision

Step one is your vision. Your vision is your big end intent. Why are you doing what you are doing? What is it ultimately that you want to accomplish?

2. Create S.M.A.R.T Goals

S.M.A.R.T Goals are Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.(from Michael Stelzner's "Launch". There is a difference between "Build a list of people" and "Build a list of 10,000 people". There is also a difference between "Run an hour a day" and "Run five miles a day". If you are running for fun than the former is ok, but if you are running your business than you have to have S.M.A.R.T goals to record your development. Stretch yourself, but don't make the goals impossible. Provide a reasonable time to get them done. We, people have an addiction to procrastinate.

3. Set Markers

Goals are the milestones. Markers are mini action steps to actualizing it. For exampleCreating a new Lead Generation course is the objective. Selecting the topic, identifying the target market, crafting the powerpoint presentation, andwriting the sales page, would be the markers for that intent. Markers can have their own markers. For example, to contrive a sales page, you would need to find create an outline, find a copywriter, create the graphics, etc.

The secret to setting an action plan is to keep breaking the steps down until you have a series of action steps and then connect the dots. You know you have a good plan whn you know exactly what steps you need to take to get to your dreams.
